A watershed is the region draining into a stream, tributary, river system, or other body of water - also called a drainage basin.
A watershed is a defined area of land from which water drains into a common water body by way of creeks, streams, soil, and groundwater aquifers. A series of small watersheds that drain into smaller streams, or tributaries, comprise a larger watershed that drains into a mainstream, or parent river. All main streams eventually flow into the ocean as they descend in elevation.
We all live in a watershed. Much like the water in a bathtub flows to one drain, any water we see in the landscape around us or running through our backyards or in nearby creeks is part of our watershed, all draining into streams, rivers and other waterbodies and eventually into the ocean.
